Just made 5 fused-scrap silver pendants. Absolutely the most fun you can legally have with a blowtorch. Took 30 minutes, cost me nothing in terms of materials because all the scrap has already been written off. They're now in the tumbler and will probably sell for around $80 each. A quick and cool way to make $400. So satisfying too!

Regretfully, I must say that it is time for me to move on from the Bribie Island Markets. The market has shrunk to the point where the level of foot traffic is not sustaining a reasonable trade for me.
Consequently, Lyn and I are in the process of moving on. We are not yet completely decided on our future direction, so watch this space for updates. We intend to continue at the Bribie Island Community Arts Centre Market, held on the last Sunday every month, and currently our plan is to start doing Petrie Markets a couple of times a month.
In April, you will be able to find us as follows:
Saturday 7 April: Bribie Island Markets, Pacific Harbour Marina
Saturday 14 April: Bribie Island Markets, Pacific Harbour Marina LAST TIME AT THIS MARKET
Sunday 15 April: Petrie Markets, Old Petrie Town
Sunday 22 April: Private home party
Sunday 29 April: Bribie Island Community Arts Centre Market

Due to massive commitments I am unfortunately going to have to declare my commissions window closed temporarily. In an effort to catch up and also make some advance stock for the silly season I will not be accepting new commissions until at the Bribie Island Gem Show on September 10 and 11 2011. I know there will be a few gem dealers there and undoubtedly some of my regular customers will be buying stones and getting them set.

Just to share that I recently won my first major art prize - Jewellery sectionin the 2011 Matthew Flinders Arts Award. Made a stunning necklace in filigree silver with a handwoven fine silver chain and the most beautiful blue-green opal centrepiece.
Unfortunately I already sold it and the buyer has very nicely asked me not to put a picture up as she does not want it duplicated! She paid premium too so I am happy to oblige.

On the flip side, nearly sliced off a good sized chunk of my left index finger cutting up silver in too much of a hurry. Fortunately managed to stop the cut before it went deep, folded the flap of skin back down and used skin glue to stop the bleeding! Amazing stuff skin glue, I'm not even sore today!

Just found out the annual Matthew Flinders art competition includes a category for Glass and Jewellery this year. The entries close in July, right about the same time as the Medieval Festival. I think I will do a filigree piece for each, this will save me heaps of time in layout and fabrication if I make them side by side, though the designs I have in mind are completely different. I've seen an Angel design on Jeanne Rhodes-Moen's website (Jeanne is an artist I respect ENORMOUSLY, btw, check out her work) and I think with my usual playing around and tweaking I can make something spectacular. And for the Medieval festival I'm going to follow the guidelines they gave me last year and just make something drippy with pearls. Got to make 4 pieces for that one so maybe I will have a go at the reliquary box design that's been floating around in my head all year too.

Having embarrassed myself recently by temporarily forgetting about a rose quartz nugget necklace I promised to make - and then having to scrabble frantically for almost an hour to find them once reminded (sorry, Carol...) I decided it really was time for my study to have a clean up. I've spent the last week, an hour or so a day, in there packing up beads, unpacking ones I'd forgotten I'd bought (damn you, Fire Mountain!), throwing out junk, finishing off UFOs and generally unearthing dust bunnies, and a miracle occured today.

I found - among other things, including a very nice strand of pink pearls and a gorgeous malachite cabochon I'd completely forgotten about - MY DESK!!!!

LOL. Maybe now I can get some work done.

That's how I feel at the moment! Overwhelmed with large numbers of small commissions - make earrings to match this, shorten this necklace, lengthen that bracelet, "I like that but could you do it in pink?" - whew! I've resorted to list-making in order to prioritise and get them all under control. It's worked actually, the panic I was feeling last week has subsided. Everything I need to complete the commissions I currently have is on order and I have a coherent list of what to do this week to stay on track. Now provided life doesn't throw me any curve balls in the next day or so I should actually get ahead for once!

Really enjoying the weekly markets at Pacific Harbour Marina. Meeting lovely new people and getting lots of customer feedback on how nice and different my jewellery is.
